Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.
The Swedish security service, Säpo, announced on Monday that it dismantled a Russian intelligence operation aimed at influencing the country's decision making process. According to Säpo, the operation was planned and directed by the SVR, Russia's foreign intelligence service. Three individuals working under diplomatic immunity were involved in the plot, which sought to discredit Sweden, the European Union, and NATO. Säpo stated that it successfully identified the details of the meetings and the specific tasks assigned to the individuals. A spokesperson for the agency noted that this activity aligns with the threats Sweden perceives from Russia. The three individuals are no longer in Sweden, although further details regarding the measures taken were not disclosed. This event occurs amid heightened tensions in the Baltic region following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, which led Sweden to abandon its long standing neutrality and join NATO in March 2024. Säpo has previously identified Russia, China, and Iran as the primary intelligence threats to the country.
