The Taiwan Air Force conducted comprehensive combat drills involving Mirage 2000 fighter jets at the Hsinchu Air Force Base on Friday. These exercises were part of the annual Han Kuang military exercises and simulated a sequence starting with an enemy airstrike and ending with a counteroffensive. Personnel practiced loading R.550 Magic and MICA missiles onto the aircraft. The drills included an emergency scramble exercise where two jets had to be airborne within six minutes of receiving an order from the Joint Air Operations Center.
Simultaneously, the base carried out emergency runway repair drills. Personnel used excavators, dump trucks, and graders to fill a mock missile crater with gravel before laying fiberglass expeditionary runway matting. According to Squadron leader Lin Chih-hsuan of the 2nd Tactical Fighter Wing, Air Force requirements dictate that the process from crater mapping to repair must be completed within four hours.
