Taiwanese authorities have detained two mainland Chinese men incommunicado after a rubber boat was discovered on a beach in New Taipei City. An angler found the inflatable vessel on July 24 at Bali Beach near the Port of Taipei, which is located approximately 20 kilometers from the island's political center. The boat contained items including Chinese made metal oil drums, life jackets, and packaging with simplified Chinese characters. The suspects were arrested at a park in Taoyuan on July 30 and the case has been referred to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office.
The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) stated that personnel on duty overlooked some secluded areas during shoreline patrols. The CGA noted that it has not yet sufficiently upgraded technological equipment or artificial intelligence systems to identify small targets. Since last year, the CGA has recorded 29 cases of illegal entry involving 71 people, claiming an apprehension rate of 85.9 percent.
