The Taliban regime of Afghanistan held a public reception on Indian soil to commemorate the fifth anniversary of its return to power in Kabul on August 15, 2021. The event was attended by Anand Prakash, the joint secretary heading the Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran division of the Indian external affairs ministry, despite the fact that the Indian government does not officially recognize the Taliban government. During the event, charge d’affaires Noor Ahmed Noor outlined a foreign policy of balanced engagement and non interference. He expressed a desire for greater political trust and an economic partnership with India, citing a shared history of trade and cultural heritage. Noor noted that diplomatic contacts have expanded and high level delegations have exchanged visits.
