Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay convened a meeting of Tamil Nadu MPs on Saturday to discuss the Union government's proposed delimitation exercise. The meeting resolved that the Tamil Nadu government should introduce a resolution in the Assembly urging the Union government to permanently freeze the strength of the Lok Sabha at 543 seats to preserve each state's existing share of representation. The participants rejected suggestions that increasing the overall size of the Lok Sabha could address the concerns of southern states, calling such an expansion an illusion.

DMK parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi described the event as a political drama intended to divert attention from the Cauvery dispute and the Mekedatu dam. She stated that the DMK is not completely against delimitation but seeks a fair process, suggesting that the 1971 population should remain the basis for representation for another 30 years after 2026. The AIADMK similarly called the meeting a staged drama, noting that no new delimitation bill has been introduced in Parliament.
