Tata Advanced Systems and US Firms to Co-Produce Javelin Missiles in India

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV), a partnership between Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, to co-produce the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) in India. The agreement follows a letter of offer and acceptance signed by the Indian Army to purchase the anti-tank guided missile system from the United States through the foreign military sales process. The request included 100 Javelin rounds, one fly-to-buy missile, and 25 command launch units.

Under the terms of the MoU, TASL and the JJV will explore the establishment of a final assembly and integration facility for the missiles and component production capabilities within India. TASL CEO Sukaran Singh stated that the initiative will bring critical assembly expertise and knowledge transfer into the Indian defence industrial ecosystem. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor noted that the agreement demonstrates US support for the Indian Army and creates opportunities for the defense industries of both nations to work together.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated that the sale supports US foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the strategic relationship with India and improving security in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions. The Javelin system is currently used by the US Army, the Marine Corps, and various international customers to target armoured vehicles and fortified positions.
