Thirteen people died on Saturday after a small sightseeing plane crashed in Peru. The aircraft was carrying eleven foreign tourists and two crew members. The flight had departed from Pisco to conduct a tour over the Nazca Lines and Geoglyphs, a major archaeological site. The crash occurred around 1:00 p.m. local time in the Pueblo Viejo sector of southern Peru.
Among the eleven foreign victims were seven Italians, two Germans, and two Spaniards. Authorities from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Peruvian Foreign Ministry are coordinating to notify the families of the deceased. Emergency responders, including firefighters and police, worked at the scene to recover bodies from the wreckage.
One report identified the aircraft as a Cessna Caravan C-208. While the cause of the crash remains unknown, aeronautical authorities have launched an investigation.
