Thousands of Brazilian Productive Sector Entities Demand STF Response to Institutional Crisis

Approximately 3,000 entities from the Brazilian productive sector have signed a manifesto demanding that the Supreme Federal Court (STF) urgently address an ongoing institutional crisis in a public session. The signatories include major organizations such as the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo (Fiesp), and the National Confederation of Commerce (CNC). These entities represent roughly 90 percent of Brazil's GDP and generate approximately 40 million jobs. The manifesto asserts that the country is facing an institutional crisis of extreme gravity and argues that the STF, as the guardian of the Constitution, must remain transparent and accountable to the law. The crisis stems from a conflict between Justice Andre Mendonca and Justice Alexandre de Moraes. Justice Mendonca lifted the secrecy of a Federal Police report revealing messages between Justice Moraes and banker Daniel Vorcaro. These dialogues mention contracts and aircraft involving the law firm of Justice Moraes' wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes. In response, Justice Moraes used a fake news inquiry to accuse Justice Mendonca of crimes and requested that the court president open an action against him. Additionally, Justice Mendonca ordered the preventive removal of the Director General of the Federal Police and the Director of Intelligence from their roles. Ricardo Alban, president of the CNI, stated that these crises risk the stability of institutions and could negatively impact competitiveness, investment, and job creation. A separate manifesto signed by 157 public figures and professionals also called for an independent investigation and the creation of a binding code of conduct for superior courts.
