Tiger Woods Scheduled for Change of Plea Hearing Following DUI Arrest

Tiger Woods is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning in Martin County, Florida, for a hearing to change his plea. The appearance comes five months after the golfer was arrested following a rollover crash in March. Woods originally pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing. He also received a traffic violation for careless driving.

According to court records and police affidavits, Woods' vehicle clipped another vehicle or trailer and rolled over. Woods had to crawl out through the passenger door to free himself, and no one was injured in the incident. Woods told officers he had been looking at his phone and changing the radio station before the crash. While he passed a breathalyzer test and denied consuming alcohol, he admitted to taking several prescription medications earlier that morning. Officers found two hydrocodone pills, an opioid used for pain, in his pocket. Woods declined to undergo a urinalysis screening for other drugs.

Following the arrest, Woods released a statement saying he understood the seriousness of the situation and was stepping away to seek treatment and focus on his health. This incident marks the second time Woods has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, following a 2017 case where he pleaded guilty to reckless driving after a toxicology report found various medications and THC in his system.

It remains unclear how Woods intends to change his plea or if a deal has been reached with prosecutors. Representatives for Woods have declined to comment on the development.
