The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Tuesday afternoon that a low pressure area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into Tropical Depression Neneng. As of 2 p.m. the storm was located approximately 1,025 to 1,035 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon. Neneng is moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 55 kilometers per hour.
Neneng is the 14th tropical cyclone of 2026 and the third for August. While the storm is expected to stay far from the Philippine landmass as it heads toward Taiwan and Japan's Ryukyu Islands, it is forecast to enhance the southwest monsoon. This enhancement may trigger moderate to intense rain, potentially causing floods and landslides in parts of Luzon and the Visayas.
