The US backed Board of Peace has stated that the Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza will only begin after the complete disarmament of Hamas. Hamas spokesperson Ghazi Hamad told Piers Morgan that the group accepted the agreement due to forced necessity and the hard circumstances in Gaza. Hamad stated the deal was necessary to save citizens from displacement and mass killing. However, he also claimed that Hamas has not changed its mentality and views resisting the occupation as a holy mission. While Hamad did not explicitly answer when the group would disarm, he suggested that Hamas might use different tactics and tools in the future. He further expressed doubt that Israel would fulfill its commitments, citing a state of arrogance and supremacy.
