- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he did not direct Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to intervene in the bond market this week. Trump told reporters that Bessent acted on his own authority and based on his own understanding of the issues, describing the former hedge fund manager as a very capable man. This follows a series of maneuvers by the Treasury Department to address rising long dated Treasury yields, which recently reached near two decade highs. On Wednesday, the Treasury announced it would double the size of buybacks on longer dated securities to at least 4 billion dollars per operation. Bessent later told CNBC that the government might further increase these repurchases. Bessent stated that his objective was to support liquidity and signal that yields do not reflect underlying fundamentals. While the 30 year yield initially dropped following the announcement, much of that move was retraced by Thursday. Bessent also noted that he and White House budget director Russell Vought are embarking on a fiscal consolidation effort to find savings of several hundred billion dollars as total US public debt has crossed 40 trillion dollars.
