U.S. President Donald Trump has dispatched special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv this weekend to present a proposal aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Telegram that the envoys are scheduled to visit Moscow first and then travel to Kyiv on Sunday, September 6. Meanwhile, reports from Ukrainska Pravda indicate that Ukrainian troops were ordered to halt fighting from September 5 to September 8 as part of a proposed temporary ceasefire to facilitate the visits. President Zelenskyy pledged that Ukraine would ensure the normal functioning of Russian airspace and refrain from airstrikes for the safety of the U.S. negotiators, while calling on Russia to do the same.
