Two Detained After Musician and Family Slain in Mexico Penthouse

Authorities in the State of Mexico have detained two men in connection with the murder of Jonathan Meléndez, a founding member and keyboardist for the band Camilo Séptimo, and three other people. The victims, found in an upscale penthouse in the Bosque Esmeralda residential area of Atizapán, include Meléndez, his 35 year old wife who was four months pregnant, their three year old daughter, and a 21 year old domestic worker. A six year old son of the couple was found alive and uninjured at the scene. Investigators also reported that the family dog was found tied and dead.

One of the detainees, identified as Diego Sebastián Rosen Ferlini, was a business partner of Meléndez. The two reportedly managed vacation rentals in Valle de Bravo via Airbnb. According to the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office, Rosen Ferlini used this relationship of trust to enter the home. Security footage shows the suspect entering the building wearing a cap, sunglasses, and a backpack. A second man, Gerardo Cisneros Bejarano, was also arrested for his alleged role in the crime. Both suspects were captured within 12 hours of the discovery of the bodies.

While official motives are still being processed, some reports suggest the crime stemmed from a financial dispute. Unconfirmed reports from journalists cite a conflict over 300,000 pesos, either as a debt or a failed loan. Additionally, social media posts from July 2026 alleged that Rosen Ferlini had been involved in vacation rental frauds totaling approximately 500,000 pesos. The band Camilo Séptimo released a statement expressing deep grief and calling for the Prosecutor's Office to clarify the events.
