Two German citizens died after their small aircraft crashed in the Velebit Mountains near the coastal city of Zadar, Croatia. The aircraft, a two seat Diamond HK36 Super Dimona motor glider registered in Germany, crashed on Friday afternoon in the area of Paklenica National Park. According to the state agency for aviation, maritime, and railway accidents, the plane was traveling from the Czech Republic toward Zadar when the incident occurred.
Emergency services, including civil protection, fire departments, and mountain rescue teams, conducted a search in difficult terrain. The wreckage and the bodies of the victims were located around 10 p.m. following a search that included the use of drones. Authorities have not yet released official details regarding the age, gender, or origin of the victims, although one report cited by a center left source mentioned they may have been a senior man and woman.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
