- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Two sailors remain missing and 23 crew members have been rescued following an attack on the Panama flagged oil tanker El Gaia in the Strait of Hormuz. Oman's Maritime Security Centre reported that the vessel is being towed to an Omani port after a fire broke out in its engine room. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that of the 14 Indian crew members on board, 13 were rescued while search operations for one missing individual continued.
Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the cause of the attack. Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed the tanker caught fire after hitting naval mines while passing through a restricted and unsafe route. However, the US military denied this account. CENTCOM stated the vessel was struck by an Iranian missile last month and again by a drone over the weekend. The UK Maritime Trade Operations centre reported that the vessel was struck by an unknown projectile in the early hours of Sunday.
This incident occurs amid broader regional instability. The International Maritime Organization reports that at least 22 seafarers have been killed in 79 confirmed incidents in the Middle East since the start of the war between Iran and the US and Israel in February. While US President Donald Trump recently claimed that all mines in the Strait of Hormuz had been removed or destroyed, Iran has continued to target vessels using routes through Omani waters.
