  • A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.

Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

Two hydropower workers were rescued alive from a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A project on Friday, nine days after devastating flash floods struck the Nepal China border. The survivors were identified as Sanjay Sah, a mechanical foreman, and Kabir Maharjan, a mechanical supervisor. Rescuers reportedly established contact after hearing voices from inside the tunnel, to which the men responded with the word hunchha, meaning yes or OK. The two men were extracted from a depth of 170 meters and transported to a hospital in Kathmandu. One survivor was reported to have non critical injuries, while the other was unable to move his limbs. The rescue comes amid a massive search operation for approximately 900 workers believed to be trapped in tunnels across six to twelve hydropower projects. The disaster was triggered on August 26 by a glacier collapse that sent a wall of ice, rock, and mud through the Trishuli valley. Death tolls vary across reports, with some sources citing 1,259 deaths in Nepal and 21 in Tibet, while others report a total of 1,280 dead and over 5,600 missing. The floods destroyed approximately 10 percent of Nepal's power generation capacity and caused estimated damages of 2.56 billion US dollars. Rescue efforts have been aided by a WhatsApp group of over 500 engineers who provide real time guidance and layout drawings of the buried facilities. International aid has also arrived, including 74 tonnes of relief supplies and medical teams from India. Some reports describe the event as an inland tsunami or a Himalayan tsunami, noting that the debris flow was caused by a cascading hazard where a rock and ice avalanche created a natural dam that subsequently breached.
