Uganda Reverses Withdrawal from Invictus Games Following King Charles' Intervention

Uganda will participate in Prince Harry's Invictus Games next year after previously withdrawing from the event. The decision to pull out was made by Uganda's chief of defence forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who stated the move was intended to avoid appearing opposed to King Charles III. General Kainerugaba specifically cited concerns over what he called Harry and Meghan nonsense, referring to the controversy surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their status as private citizens.

The reversal occurred after Sir Clive Alderton, the principal private secretary to the King and Queen, contacted General Kainerugaba. According to reports, the King was moved by Uganda's consideration of his opinion but had no problem with the nation's participation. Colonel Chris Magezi, acting director of defence public information, confirmed that this communication encouraged the Uganda People's Defence Force to resume preparations for the games.

Uganda had recently joined the Invictus family in a London ceremony two months ago, becoming the second African nation to do so after Nigeria. The games, which support injured, sick, or wounded service personnel, are scheduled to take place in Birmingham next year. The withdrawal had been linked to a Buckingham Palace statement clarifying that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain private individuals and non working royals.
