Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro was buried on September 12 at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal, Uganda. The 34 year old monarch died on August 27 in the United States while receiving treatment for cancer. He first ascended the throne in 1995 at the age of three, making him the world's youngest reigning monarch.

The burial took place amid a bitter dispute over the succession of the throne. Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a 56 year old news anchor and editor at the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, was selected by the royal clan to succeed Oyo. During the burial, Kijanangoma formally assumed power by casting nine coffee berries into the grave. However, the succession remains contested by the late king's immediate family, including his mother, Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, and his sister, Princess Ruth Komuntale.

The dispute centers on a 2022 will. The family asserts that the will names a biological son as the heir. While Tooro's Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, announced that the king had a son, the child's identity has not been publicly revealed. Babiito clan elders, who oversee royal lineage and tradition, argue that the will is a statement of wish rather than a determinant of kingship. They maintain that because the child was not introduced through the customary process, Kijanangoma is the rightful successor.

Government authorities were involved in crisis talks to resolve the matter before the burial. The new king inherits a royal estate that includes significant land and cash payouts from the central government. During his reign, King Oyo served as a UN goodwill ambassador for the fight against HIV and Aids and maintained a relationship with former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who served as his special adviser.
