Umno President Challenges Pakatan Harapan to Dissolve Parliament or Remove Party from Government

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has challenged the Pakatan Harapan led coalition government to either remove Umno from power or call for a snap general election. Speaking at the party's annual general assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Zahid stated that the unity government was formed because of Umno's support following the 2022 general election. He argued that if the coalition were to oust Umno, it would lose its initial foundation and should therefore return the mandate to the people.

Zahid presented two options to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim: obtain a fresh mandate through a general election or formally remove Umno from the government and table a confidence vote in the Dewan Rakyat. During the speech, thousands of delegates chanted for the dissolution of parliament. Zahid also noted that three MPs had recently quit PKR, which he claimed further weakened the original foundation of the government.

Following the assembly, Zahid clarified in a press conference that Umno would not table a no confidence motion against Anwar. He stated that Umno leaders would remain professional members of the cabinet despite differences of opinion. Additionally, Zahid announced that Umno will organize a mass Perpaduan Ummah rally with PAS, aiming for one million participants.
