US and China Diverge on AI Strategy Ahead of Washington Summit

President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping have presented opposing visions for the development of artificial intelligence. In contrast, Xi Jinping called for international cooperation, openness, and a global AI governance pact during a speech to Global South leaders in India. While the US has implemented technology controls to limit Chinese access to advanced processors, some Chinese firms have recently released models that challenge American dominance. US federal agencies and companies like Anthropic have accused Chinese firms of industrial scale theft of intellectual property and the misuse of AI for surveillance and weapons development.
