Video of Girl Dancing in Porto Alegre Hospital Goes Viral Following Recovery of Movement

A video of a 14 year old girl dancing with her mother in a hospital in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, has gained thousands of likes and shares on social media. The teenager, Livia Borges, was celebrating the recovery of her movements while battling Guillain Barre Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks peripheral nerves and causes progressive muscle weakness. The dance was a rehearsal for the Semana Farroupilha, a traditional cultural event in the region.

The recording was captured by neuropsychologist Lidiane Klein, who filmed the scene from a building across the street. Klein initially posted the video as a reflection on living life despite difficulties, but later learned the medical context behind the dance. Livia and her mother, Elisiane Marques Lopez, described the moment as a victory and a representation of their strength and faith during a tense period of hospitalization.

Now discharged from the hospital, Livia plans to return to her hometown of Bagé to rejoin the Centro de Tradicoes Gauchas Sentinela da Fronteira. The dance was set to the song Andar com Fe by Gilberto Gil.
