Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

Walmart reported its slowest US sales growth in six years, leading the retailer to pledge price cuts for consumers. US store sales, excluding fuel, rose 2.6 percent in the quarter ending July 31, compared to 4.6 percent a year ago. This decline contributed to a drop of more than 9 percent in Walmart shares during early trading on Thursday.

Despite the sales slowdown, Walmart earned 6.4 billion dollars in net income for the quarter. This result was supported by strong online spending and a 2.9 billion dollar tariff refund. The refund is part of a larger government payout following a February Supreme Court ruling that certain tariffs were illegal. Other major companies, including Target, Home Depot, and Apple, have also reported receiving similar refunds.

Walmart CFO John David Rainey attributed the softer consumer environment to higher gas prices, noting a psychological impact when fuel exceeds 4 dollars a gallon. Other factors contributing to the sales trend include lower pricing for GLP-1 weight loss drugs and a shift toward online shopping. The company intends to use the tariff refund to fund price investments to help spur consumer spending.
