Water Restrictions Issued in Main-Kinzig-Kreis Due to Major Forest Fire

Residents of Freigericht, Bruchköbel, Langenselbold, and surrounding areas in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis have been asked to limit water usage to the absolute minimum. The local water supplier issued the request to ensure sufficient reserves for firefighting efforts following a large forest fire between Ober- and Niederrodenbach. Specifically, the public is asked to avoid showering, bathing, and watering gardens.

Reports on the size of the affected area vary. A police spokesperson stated that several thousand square meters were affected, while the Kreisbrandinspektion from Aschaffenburg estimated the burned area to be at least 30,000 square meters. Emergency crews worked through the night to combat the fire, which continued to flare up due to wind. Firefighters faced challenges including deep embers in the soil and the risk of falling trees.

In Alzenau, residents were temporarily advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke, though this warning was later lifted. The integrated control center of the Main-Kinzig-Kreis used the Katwarn system to alert the population to avoid the affected area and disable ventilation and air conditioning systems. A helicopter was also involved in the firefighting operations.
