Whistleblower provides contradictory accounts in rape allegation against Alfredo Gaspar

Luiz Antônio Lopes, the man who triggered accusations of statutory rape against Federal Deputy Alfredo Gaspar, has provided contradictory versions of events over the last five months. Gaspar is the candidate for vice president alongside Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. In March, Lopes told Deputy Lindbergh Farias and Senator Soraya Thronicke that Gaspar had raped and impregnated a teenager, claiming he had evidence and contact with the victim. However, in April, Lopes testified to the Legislative Police that the accusation was a setup orchestrated by Lindbergh Farias. Shortly after this testimony, Lopes joined the Liberal Party (PL).

Recent communications show further inconsistency. In messages last week, Lopes returned to the original accusation against Gaspar and promised evidence that he did not provide. By Tuesday, he changed his account again, stating that a hired woman would release a video telling the truth and that the case was a setup against Gaspar, while simultaneously denying that he had changed his story.

The Federal Police requested an investigation into the alleged rape on April 15. Justice Gilmar Mendes of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) has requested a position from the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR) regarding the request. Gaspar has called for the acceleration of a DNA test to disprove the allegations and is pursuing legal action against Lindbergh and Soraya for slander and coercion.

The PL campaign maintains that the allegations are false. They claim the accusation was a retaliatory strike because Gaspar, while serving as a rapporteur for the INSS Mixed CPI, sought the indictment of Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, the son of President Lula. Both reports present these facts similarly, as the content of the two provided sources is nearly identical.
