Local government units across several regions of the Philippines suspended in person classes on Monday, August 17, due to persistent rains brought by the southwest monsoon. The suspensions affected various levels of public and private schools in Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
In Calabarzon, suspensions were implemented in parts of Cavite and Batangas. Specifically, General Trias City in Cavite and Nasugbu in Batangas suspended classes at all levels. Other affected areas in Cavite included Amadeo, Cavite City, Dasmariñas City, Imus City, Kawit, Maragondon, Naic, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Ternate, and Trece Martires City. In Batangas, suspensions also occurred in Balayan, Calaca City, Calatagan, Lemery, Lian, and Tuy.
Central Luzon also saw widespread suspensions. In Bulacan, classes were suspended in Calumpit, Hagonoy, Marilao, and Paombong, with select schools affected in Balagtas. In Nueva Ecija, Santa Rosa suspended classes from preschool to senior high school. Pampanga reported suspensions in Arayat, Bacolor, Masantol, Minalin, San Fernando City, and San Simon, with the latter and Santo Tomas extending suspensions until Thursday, August 20. Guagua and Macabebe also implemented suspensions.
In the Cordillera Administrative Region, face to face classes for preschool to senior high school were suspended in Abra. Benguet reported suspensions in Atok, Buguias, Kabayan, La Trinidad, Mankayan, and Sablan for preschool to senior high school, while Bakun and Itogon suspended all levels. Bokod and Kapangan suspended classes from preschool to elementary.
School authorities were advised to implement alternative learning modalities during the suspension period.
