Widow's Bay Sets Record at 78th Emmy Awards

The comedy series Widow's Bay won a record breaking 14 Emmys at the 78th Emmy Awards, surpassing the previous record held by The Studio. While center left coverage described the win as part of a night of outstanding achievements, center right coverage framed the victory as a surprise win for the Apple TV production. Other major winners included The Pitt, which won for best drama series, and Noah Wyle, who won his second Emmy for best lead actor in a drama for his role in The Pitt. Rhea Seehorn won best lead actress in a drama for Pluribus, and Jean Smart won her fifth consecutive Emmy for best lead actress in a comedy for Hacks. Additional awards went to Allison Janney for The Diplomat, DTF St. Louis for best miniseries or anthology, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for outstanding variety series. Alan Cumming was recognized for the reality competition format The Traitors. In a separate highlight of the evening, actor Michael J. Fox received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his work with his foundation. During his speech from a wheelchair, Fox discussed his experience living with Parkinson's disease and his decision to eventually make his diagnosis public.
