- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) announced on Wednesday that Xavi Hernández is the new head coach of the Netherlands national football team. The 46 year old Spaniard signed a contract that runs through the 2030 World Cup. Xavi succeeds Ronald Koeman, who stepped down following the team's elimination by Morocco in a penalty shootout during the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. This appointment marks the first time since 1978, when Austrian Ernst Happel led the team, that the Netherlands has hired a foreign born head coach.
Xavi will make his debut on the sidelines on September 24 in a Nations League match against Germany, which will also be the first match for Jürgen Klopp as the German national coach. Xavi expressed a deep connection to Dutch football, stating that he feels like a son of the system due to his training at the FC Barcelona academy under the influence of Johan Cruyff and Rinus Michels. He also credited Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard for their roles in his development. Nigel de Jong, the KNVB director of elite football, noted that Xavi's philosophy of dominant and attractive football aligns with the vision for the national team.
As a player, Xavi won the 2010 World Cup with Spain, defeating the Netherlands in the final, as well as the 2008 and 2012 European Championships. With Barcelona, he won eight league titles and four Champions League trophies. His coaching career began with Al Sadd in Qatar and continued at FC Barcelona from 2021 to 2024, where he won the Spanish league title in 2023. Several reports noted that the KNVB considered other candidates, including Arne Slot, who declined the position to remain in club football.
