BJP Emerges as Largest Party in Rajasthan Urban Local Body Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party in the Rajasthan urban local body elections, winning 4,179 wards compared to 3,613 for the Congress party. Out of 10,244 total wards, independents secured 2,273 seats. The BJP secured clear majorities in 86 of the 309 local bodies, while the Congress secured clear majorities in 46. In the 10 municipal corporations, the BJP became the largest party in Jaipur, Kota, and Alwar, and won clear majorities in Udaipur and Bhilwara. The Congress won a clear majority in Bikaner and was the single largest party in Ajmer and Pali. In Jaipur, the BJP won 75 wards, falling one seat short of a clear majority in the 150 member corporation. In Kota, the BJP won 55 out of 100 wards, though elections for chairperson and vice chairperson were postponed due to EVM glitches in some wards. In Bundi, the BJP became the largest party with 29 wins and later reached a full majority after three independents joined the party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the result as a victory of truth over falsehood and a mandate for the double engine government's policies. Conversely, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra stated that the results show the gap between the two parties has narrowed. Center right framing emphasizes the BJP's overall lead and the Prime Minister's narrative of development, while center left framing highlights specific Congress gains in Ajmer and allegations of EVM malfunctions in Kota.
