British Race Driver Saved by Rival After Crash in China

British racing driver Ollie Millroy was saved from a burning car by a rival driver during a China GT Championship race at the Shanghai International Circuit. Loek Hartog, a 23 year old Dutchman, stopped his own vehicle and used a fire extinguisher on Millroy's Ferrari before dragging him from the wreckage. Millroy, 36, suffered five broken ribs, a broken collar bone, a broken hand and finger, and a bruised lung. He stated on Instagram that he owes his life to Hartog, who acted while no flag marshals or fire crews were in sight.

Following the incident, Millroy's team, AAI Motorsport, announced it would no longer participate in races organized by China GT. The team criticized the safety standards at the circuit, noting that the car burned for over a minute without timely firefighting or rescue operations. The China GT Championship organizing committee issued an apology on Weibo, stating they would conduct a thorough investigation into the accident and address shortcomings. Hartog played down his actions in a social media post, stating that many people in his position would have reacted the same way.
