Collective Funeral Held in Southern Lebanon Following Israeli Strikes

Hundreds of people gathered in the southern Lebanese town of Kfar Rumman on Tuesday for a collective funeral following Israeli strikes on Monday. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that at least 12 people died in an attack on a residential building, while a separate drone strike on a civilian vehicle killed a rescuer. In total, the Lebanese health ministry states that over 4,300 people have been killed since March, including more than 250 children and 130 rescuers.

Details from the scene indicate that the victims included members of the Farhat family, including a three month old infant. Two of the deceased were identified as Hezbollah members, with their coffins draped in the group's yellow flag. Other coffins were covered in Lebanese flags. A deputy mayor stated that the strike on the Farhat family occurred at night while they were sleeping and that there was no military activity present.

The Israeli military stated it targeted Hezbollah infrastructure sites and individuals transporting weapons in the Kfar Rumman region. The military claimed it used precision munitions and aerial surveillance to mitigate damage to uninvolved individuals. It added that it is reviewing reports that non combatants were harmed.

Both reports note that these attacks follow a period of reduced violence after a ceasefire was established in June. However, tensions remain high as Israeli forces continue to occupy a security zone in southern Lebanon. Mourners at the funeral expressed anger toward Israel and the United States, and some criticized the Lebanese government for continuing negotiations with Israel.
