The Seoul Family Court on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed by Kim Young-sik, the widow of late LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo, who sought to terminate the adoption of current LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo. The court did not disclose the specific reasons for its ruling.
Kim filed the legal proceedings in November 2024 while engaged in a separate legal battle regarding the inheritance of her late husband. In February 2023, Kim and her two daughters filed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate the inheritance that occurred after Koo Bon-moo's death; that case remains pending before the trial court.
Koo Kwang-mo is the biological son of Koo Bon-neung, the chair of Heesung Group and younger brother of Koo Bon-moo. He was adopted by the late chairman in 2004 to maintain the group's tradition of transferring management control to the eldest son. Following the death of Koo Bon-moo in 2018, Koo Kwang-mo inherited the majority of the shares in the holding company LG Corp. and became its largest shareholder.
