Dacia to Shift Production of Spring Electric Car from China to Europe

Dacia is moving the assembly of its entry level electric model, the Spring, from China to the Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia. This strategic shift is driven by changes in the European automotive environment and regulations, specifically the European Union's protective tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and stricter member state subsidy systems that often exclude non European models. The new Spring will be built on the Renault Group's own RG EV Small electric platform.

The updated model features increased dimensions, including a 18 centimeter increase in width and a 15 centimeter increase in length, to improve cabin space. It has a length of 3.85 meters, a 337 liter trunk, and a 18 liter storage compartment. The exterior design now incorporates more robust elements typical of the brand's SUV lineup.

In terms of performance, Dacia has streamlined the powertrain to a single 80 horsepower motor. This configuration provides a top speed of 130 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 12.7 seconds. The vehicle is equipped with a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery offering a maximum range of 250 kilometers. Charging options include a standard 6.6 kW AC onboard charger, with 50 kW DC fast charging and bidirectional charging available as optional extras.

Interior updates include a standard digital instrument cluster and reversing sensors, as well as an axially adjustable steering wheel. Higher trim levels, such as the Journey, add a 10.1 inch touchscreen, a reversing camera, and phone mirroring. While exact pricing has not been disclosed, Dacia stated that the starting price will remain below 20,000 euros before government subsidies.
