A new Datafolha survey reveals that 50% of voters disapprove of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government, while 47% approve. This represents a shift from the previous survey, where approval stood at 49% and disapproval at 48%. Due to a margin of error of two percentage points, the current approval rating is considered a technical tie. Three percent of respondents did not know or provide an answer.
Regarding the overall evaluation of the administration, 41% of respondents view the government as bad or awful, an increase from 38% in late July. Those who view the government as good or great remained relatively stable, moving from 32% to 33%. Voters who rate the government as regular decreased from 28% to 25%.
The survey was conducted between August 18 and 21, involving 2,058 interviews across 128 cities. The study was commissioned by TV Globo and Folha de S.Paulo and registered with the Electoral Court under code BR-04496/2026.
Outlets with a center lean provided additional context, noting that the negative trend may alarm the PT campaign and attributing the shift to debates over public accounts. One center source also mentioned suspicions of influence peddling involving the president's son, though it noted the case had not yet shaken the president's image. The center right outlet focused primarily on the raw approval and disapproval percentages without providing political analysis of the causes.
