Dutch driver Loek Hartog rescued British pilot Ollie Millroy from a flaming vehicle following an accident at the China GT race on Saturday. The incident occurred at the Shanghai International Circuit when Millroy's car collided with other vehicles and caught fire almost immediately. Hartog abandoned the race to pull Millroy from the wreckage before track marshals or rescue teams arrived.
Millroy suffered five broken ribs, a fractured clavicle, a broken hand and finger, and a lung contusion. In a post on Instagram, Millroy stated that he is alive thanks to Hartog, who risked his own life to save him. Hartog later shared on social media that he acted without hesitation because he believed Millroy could not escape on his own.
The China GT is a Gran Turismo category championship established in 2016. It features racing versions of sports cars from brands such as Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Mercedes-AMG.
