- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on August 10, causing significant casualties and infrastructure damage in Buenaventura, the country's largest Pacific port. The disaster left 26 people dead, 476 injured, and 38,175 people displaced. Additionally, 9,362 homes were damaged and 4,265 were rendered uninhabitable. In rural areas such as La Estrella, Las Brisas, and Crucero, the earthquake destroyed the only local school and damaged water storage tanks. Humanitarian aid has been provided by the Sharp Consortium, funded by the European Union, to reach areas where state assistance is slow to arrive. Residents in these regions report a double crisis, as the earthquake exacerbated existing vulnerabilities caused by poverty and the presence of armed groups, including FARC dissidents, the ELN, and criminal gangs like Los Espartanos and Los Shottas. Separately, the Colombian Geological Service reported another tremor on Monday, August 31, near the Puracé volcano.
