Provisional figures from the Met Office show that England and Wales experienced their driest July on record. England recorded 6.5mm of rain, which is 10 percent of the long term average, while Wales recorded 9.3mm, or 9 percent of its average. Southern England specifically saw its driest month ever recorded with only 1.9mm of rain. The UK as a whole experienced its third driest July since 1868. In addition to the lack of rain, England and Wales both saw their sunniest July since data began in 1910. England recorded 305.6 hours of sunshine and Wales recorded 308.0 hours. Temperature data indicates that Wales equalled its record for the highest mean temperature at 17.8C, and England saw its second warmest July on record at 19.2C. Northern Ireland saw its eighth driest July, while Scotland was the only nation that did not break records.
