Milo Yiannopoulos, a British far right commentator and former Trump supporter, was deported to the United Kingdom on Friday. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the deportation occurred one day after Yiannopoulos was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana. According to the DHS, Yiannopoulos entered the United States legally in May 2019 through New York City but overstayed his authorized period of stay. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for his immigration hearing.
Reports indicate that Yiannopoulos was in New Orleans ahead of a scheduled performance by the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, with whom Yiannopoulos has had close professional ties. The arrest is seen by several outlets as ironic because Yiannopoulos has been a vocal advocate for aggressive immigration enforcement.
