Former IDF Chief Dan Halutz Accuses Netanyahu of Concealing Oct. 7 Warnings

Former IDF chief of staff Dan Halutz stated in an interview with 103FM that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu concealed information and warnings prior to the October 7 massacre. Halutz argued that the ultimate responsibility for the failure rests with the prime minister. These comments follow a report from Haaretz suggesting that Netanyahu received an explicit warning days before the attack during a conversation with United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed.

Halutz expressed belief that the conversation with the Emirati president took place and suggested that Netanyahu knew more than he disclosed to those responsible for solving the problems. He speculated that Netanyahu may have feared that acting on information would set the region alight or that he felt blackmailed by Qatar due to financial flows between Qatar and Hamas. Halutz also addressed reports that Hamas had conveyed a warning and that Netanyahu failed to reach definitive conclusions during security discussions. He asserted that the prime minister often avoids summarizing discussions to avoid taking definitive action.

While Halutz acknowledged that the failure was total and broad, he maintained that Netanyahu bears the primary responsibility. He further expanded his criticism to include the deterioration of education, health, and transportation in Israel. A left leaning source framed the event as a missed opportunity to change the outcome of the attack if warnings had been heeded, while a center right source focused on the specific accusations of concealment and the personal responsibility of the prime minister.
