- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
A Tokyo District Court sentenced Masayuki Hosono, a 52 year old man, to five years in prison and a 1 million yen fine for forcing a 12 year old Thai girl to provide sexual services at his private room massage parlor. The court found Hosono guilty of violating the child welfare law, noting that he failed to verify the girl's age and created a disorderly workplace environment. Judge Hiroshi Ikegami stated that Hosono caused the child emotional distress beyond imagination by forcing her to serve customers in a foreign country and making her practice on him.
Hosono denied the charges, claiming that the store manager, 39 year old Punsiripanya Phakhaphon, was responsible for recruitment. The judge also noted that the girl's 30 year old mother deserved the strongest condemnation for pressuring her daughter into sex work. Prosecutors had originally sought a six year prison term and a 2 million yen fine.
