Four to Five People Killed in Armed Attack in Cesar

Armed men attacked an establishment known as Cabeza de Hacha in the corregimiento of Simaña, located in the municipality of La Gloria in the Cesar department. The attack occurred on Sunday, September 13, when gunmen arrived and opened fire on those present. Reports on the death toll vary, with one source stating four people were killed and another reporting five deaths. The governor of Cesar, Elvia Milena Sanjuan, announced the installation of a Unified Command Post to evaluate the case. Authorities suggest the attack stems from a dispute for territorial control among criminal groups. The Ombudsman's Office had previously issued early warnings regarding the presence of illegal armed groups in La Gloria, including the ELN, the Clan del Golfo, and factions of the Farc dissidents under alias Calarca. These groups are reportedly seeking strategic positions due to the area's role as a corridor for mobility and illicit economies between Catatumbo and southern Bolívar. The local administration has requested national support, which has resulted in announced intelligence actions and the deployment of additional public force. This event follows another massacre in Mocoa, Putumayo, where three people were killed. According to Indepaz, there have been 91 massacres in the country so far in 2026.
