Google Launches Gemini 3.8 Flash with Focus on Reasoning and Coding

Google announced the release of Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday, marking its latest iteration in a series of rapid Flash model updates. The new model is available in two versions: a standard version described as a workhorse for agentic tasks and software development, and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, which is specifically tuned for software vulnerability hunting and remediation. The latter is being provided to governments, software maintainers, and critical infrastructure organizations through the Fairwind Program.

For developers, Google is offering an introductory price of $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens through the end of the year, after which the price is expected to double. The model is accessible via Google Antigravity, the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Android Studio, and the interface design service Stitch. Enterprise users can access it through Gemini Enterprise, while consumers with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions can use the model via the Gemini app, Google Sheets, and AI Mode in Google Search.

Google reports that Gemini 3.8 Flash shows improvements in coding evaluations and enterprise knowledge work benchmarks, including HLE-Verified and Harvey's Legal Agent Benchmark. According to Artificial Analysis, the model scores 59 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index when set to high reasoning, placing it level with Grok 4.6 and GPT-5.6 Sol. Google representatives stated that the model exhibits greater diligence on complex tasks by executing extra reasoning steps and calling tools iteratively, which may result in higher token usage compared to its predecessor.
