Hezbollah Chief Rejects Lebanon Israel Framework Deal Amid Ongoing Tensions

Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem rejected a trilateral framework agreement between Lebanon, Israel, and the United States on Friday, accusing Lebanese authorities of accepting Israeli dictations that humiliate the nation and its army. The June agreement involves the disarmament of Hezbollah and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, including the deployment of the Lebanese army into designated pilot zones. Qassem argued that the negotiations have yielded no achievements and claimed that Israel is attempting to use an inquiry committee to oversee the internal operations of the Lebanese army.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam is pushing for a clear timetable for Israeli withdrawal and an expansion of the pilot areas. During meetings with United States officials, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stated that stability depends on forcing Israel to stop its war and withdraw to the international border. Conversely, United States Ambassador Michel Issa and Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that Israeli attacks and occupation will only end once Hezbollah is disarmed.
