Jharkhand High Court Stays Cancellation of Multiple Recruitment Exams

The Jharkhand High Court has stayed the state government's orders to cancel several recruitment examinations, including the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC CGL), the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), and the 11th to 13th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) exams. These stays provide temporary relief to hundreds of successful candidates whose appointments were nullified by the Hemant Soren government. The government had previously ordered the cancellation of 22 examinations and probes into 23 others following massive protests by job aspirants over alleged irregularities and paper leaks.

The legal challenges brought by candidates argue that the blanket cancellations were arbitrary and violated principles of natural justice. In addition to the High Court proceedings, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a plea seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Competitive Examination 2025. The petitioner alleges systemic failures in the examination chain, citing a purported OMR sheet discrepancy as evidence of a lack of transparency.

Political and social reactions to the court's intervention vary. A BJP leader criticized the state government for failing to establish a transparent recruitment process over the last seven years. Meanwhile, some student groups have accused the government of deceiving them, alleging that the state failed to provide a strong legal defense against the stay orders in court. The Jharkhand CID continues to investigate irregularities, having already interrogated 37 suspects regarding the JSSC Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination 2023.
