Jharkhand Student Protests Continue After First Round of Government Talks

Student protests over alleged irregularities in competitive government examinations entered their 15th day on Saturday, August 8, 2026, after initial talks with the Jharkhand government failed to reach an agreement. A delegation of ministers met with student representatives on Friday in Ranchi to discuss demands, including a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) exams. Student leaders, including Ravindra Paswan and Rajesh Kumar, stated that the agitation will continue until their key demands are met, which include the cancellation of the JPSC civil service and JSSC-CGL examinations.

A center-right source highlighted the government's openness, quoting Minister Sudivya Kumar as saying the administration is considering the demands sympathetically. In contrast, a center-left source focused on the deadlock, noting that the meeting ended without any agreement and that the government has since invited another faction, the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha, for further talks.
