João Campos Outlines Education and Investment Plans for UPE

João Campos, the PSB candidate for Governor of Pernambuco, visited the University of Pernambuco (UPE) in Recife on Tuesday to present a series of proposals for the institution. Campos described the university as a central vector for the state's development and promised to strengthen and expand its structures, including interiorization. He committed to establishing a commission within the first month of a potential government, comprising UPE representatives and state secretaries, to develop a new plan for careers, positions, and investments. Specifically, he stated that creating a full professor career path at UPE is a priority and should be considered non negotiable.

As part of his platform, Campos detailed the "Pé-de-Meia Pernambuco" program, which aims to expand upon a federal incentive for public high school students. His proposal includes three specific modalities: Pé-de-Meia Técnico for those in subsequent technical education, Pé-de-Meia Empreendedor providing scholarships and mentoring for technical graduates who wish to start businesses, and Pé-de-Meia Férias to provide financial support during vacation months. He also pledged to expand the PE no Campus program to support student retention in higher education and proposed a food security policy for UPE students to be discussed with students and staff.

Regarding the timeline for these changes, Campos proposed a phased approach: presenting an initial plan within the first 100 days, validating it within six months, and beginning implementation within the first year. The event was part of a series of dialogues organized by UPE, where Campos was accompanied by vice gubernatorial candidate Carlos Costa and received by Rector Socorro Cavalcanti.
