- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
A journalist and a cameraman from Al Manar were injured on Sunday during an Israeli strike in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh. Video footage captured the moment an explosion occurred near the reporter, Ali Chbib, as he prepared for a live broadcast. Chbib sustained shrapnel wounds to his arm and leg, but both he and the cameraman survived by ducking during the blast. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 11 people died in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon on Sunday, with nine of those deaths occurring in Nabatieh al Fawqa.
The Israeli Defense Forces stated they conducted attacks in the region to target Hezbollah combatants, weapon depots, and a command center located in a former hospital. While acknowledging reports that a journalist near terrorist infrastructure was injured, the Israeli military denied targeting journalists or non combatants. They asserted that precision munitions and aerial surveillance were used to minimize civilian casualties.
Outlets with a center left lean highlighted the broader context of escalating tensions and the destruction of villages in southern Lebanon despite a June ceasefire. In contrast, the center right lean focused more narrowly on the specific incident of the broadcast and the injuries sustained by the crew.
How each side framed it
- Centre-left
- Framed the event within a larger pattern of Israeli military escalation and the violation of a ceasefire.
- Centre-right
- Focused primarily on the immediate event of the explosion and the resulting injuries to the media crew.
