Maharashtra FDA suspends licences of 13 food establishments

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the licences of 13 food establishments across the districts of Mumbai, Nashik, Palghar, and Satara following a statewide inspection drive. The actions were taken due to violations including poor hygiene, inadequate pest control, improper food storage, and insufficient water testing.

In Mumbai, five establishments had their licences suspended. These included four Domino's outlets and one Pizza Hut outlet, as well as Mumbai Metro Dhaba and Gulshan Da Punjabi Dhaba in Bhandup. The FDA cited issues at the Domino's locations regarding potable water testing, temperature monitoring, sanitation, and employee hygiene. The Bhandup restaurants were flagged for problems with refrigeration, cleanliness, and food segregation.

Additional suspensions occurred in Nashik, where five establishments including Hotel Sayali Restaurant and Bar and Hotel Chhote Miyan lost their licences. In Palghar, Daksh Hotel was suspended for 45 percent non compliance. Two outlets in Satara, including a Domino's Pizza outlet and a Sapphire Foods India Limited outlet, also had their licences suspended. Inspectors at the Sapphire Foods location noted a lack of expiry dates on seasoning packets and poor segregation of vegetarian and non vegetarian food.

According to the FDA, inspectors visited 120 hotels, restaurants, and dhabas on August 10 and 11, resulting in 54 improvement notices and 11 suspensions. A separate drive targeting 104 chain restaurant outlets resulted in 95 improvement notices, five suspensions, and two stop business orders in Greater Mumbai.
