Mannheim Regional Court Opens Proceedings Against Xavier Naidoo for Incitement of Hatred

The Mannheim Regional Court has opened criminal proceedings against singer Xavier Naidoo on charges of incitement of hatred and insult. The court admitted an indictment from July 2023 alleging that the 54 year old musician insulted a member of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and published texts with antisemitic content. A date for the trial has not yet been set.

While the prosecution had initially brought forward four cases of incitement of hatred, the court only admitted one. The remaining three allegations were rejected due to a lack of sufficient suspicion. Additionally, a second indictment from June 2024 was also rejected for the same reason. The prosecution has filed appeals against these rejections, which are currently being reviewed by the Higher Regional Court of Karlsruhe.

Lawyers for Naidoo have denied the allegations, stating that their client rejects all antisemitic, racist, or xenophobic ideologies. They maintain that there is no sufficient suspicion to justify a main trial. Naidoo previously released an apology video in 2022, admitting he had become entangled in conspiracy theories and expressing regret for his past actions.

Reports on Naidoo's history differ in detail. One source notes that the Federal Constitutional Court ruled in 2021 that he could be described as an antisemit. Another source details specific past actions, including the distribution of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and claims that the Holocaust was a historical fiction. Both sources mention a confusing appearance in early 2026 at a demonstration before the Federal Chancellery, where Naidoo made claims about children being eaten and the use of embryonic seasoning in chips.
