Former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro has publicly supported Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice André Mendonça, calling him a chosen and anointed one of the Lord. In a social media post, Bolsonaro recounted a spiritual revelation she had regarding Mendonça's appointment to the court by former President Jair Bolsonaro, urging the justice to be strong and courageous. This expression of support comes as Mendonça is embroiled in a significant institutional crisis with fellow justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The conflict began when Justice Mendonça lifted the secrecy of a Federal Police report involving messages between Justice Moraes and banker Daniel Vorcaro, the founder of Banco Master. The documents suggest Vorcaro sought Moraes's help to influence the Federal Police and the Prosecutor General to limit investigations into the bank. In response, Justice Moraes accused Mendonça of crimes, including interference in police investigations and acting on personal or political motives. Moraes requested that STF President Edson Fachin open an action against Mendonça within the fake news inquiry.
Justice Fachin subsequently determined that the investigations into Mendonça would be handled in a separate procedure from the fake news inquiry, consolidating the accusations from both sides. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General's Office has requested the nullity of the report produced by Mendonça, arguing that he failed to seek authorization from the court's plenary to investigate a fellow justice. Justice Mendonça has since released a video thanking religious leaders and allies for their prayers and support.
